Finding BalanceEnvironmental Sculptures
A short video of the process and reasoning behind making a large balance.
Natural object balances have been done by people all over the world for an enormous range of purposes – from trail markers to artwork to curiosities. For me, balancing is a meditation – a physical mediation that allows me to manifest stillness in a way that brings it directly in contact with every part of my body.
While I have created large and complex balances, I prefer to work with simple forms, allowing the single-natured simplicity of the form to become intertwined with the surroundings in a way that makes it appear natural, yet not. For me the art in these works is the act of making them. I create photographs as a way to share some small piece of that experience with others.
