I have a love of the natural world, and I try to express that in whatever media is most appropriate. Recently I have done a large amount of natural object balance sculpture. My works have included pieces in glass, ceramics, sculpture, and most types of flat media.
Balances
The balances I make are are meant to be temporary expressions - a piece of beauty captured for just a moment in time. I see tham as akin to the Tibetan Buddhist art form of making mandalas.
I try to make these balances as precarious as possible. Some last for hours or days, but others stand only long enough for me to photograph them and then topple in the next wind. I find many metaphors to life in the tenuous nature of these artworks - they are beautiful but often only fleetingly so.
